FAQs
A collection of frequently asked questions
Where do evaluations and treatment sessions take place?
Therapy sessions are typically held in a child's home, daycare, or school, but we're flexible and open to finding creative solutions to meet the child's and family's needs.
We currently travel to areas within about 30 minutes of zip code 23233. Our primary service areas are in Richmond, Virginia and surrounding counties such as Henrico, Goochland, Glen Allen, Ashland, Bon Air, and Midlothian. If you live outside of our travel radius, telehealth is an option as well!

Can you work with my child if they already receive services in school?
Absolutely! There are occasions when the frequency of services a child receives at school may not be sufficient. If you believe your child could benefit from additional private services, we're here to assist you.

What ages do you serve?
Our primary training and experience is with pediatric patients, and we currently treat children ages around 18 months and up. For feeding, we consider infants under 18 months to be a special population, and would be happy to refer you to appropriate professionals if you have concerns about your baby’s ability to breast or bottle feed.
We provide orofacial myofunctional therapy for both children (age 5+) and adults.

Do you collaborate with my child's other healthcare providers?
Absolutely! We strongly believe in collaboration, as we've seen better outcomes when providers work together. Parents are given feedback following each therapy session. We are happy to include all relevant providers (teachers, support staff, etc) in weekly communication in order to best serve each child. Included with the price of on-going therapy services are email correspondence, phone call, and/or in person consultations with other providers involved in your child's team. If our presence is requested for formal meetings greater than 30 minutes in length, an additional charge will be applied.

My child didn't qualify for EI or school based services. Can you still work with them?
Certainly! Often, formal assessments and standardized scores don't paint the complete picture and additional services could be beneficial for the child. We're here to offer that support!
How often will my child need speech therapy?
We pride ourselves in being able to tailor treatment frequency to what best serves each child. Therapy sessions are available weekly, every other week, and monthly. Our recommendations for how often a child comes to speech therapy depends on the communication difficulty being treated, the severity, as well as the treatment methods being used. Typically, children are seen with Ignite Speech once a week for individual 30 or 60 minute sessions.
Can I be present for my child’s session?
Absolutely! We welcome your presence during your child's sessions as your involvement can be incredibly valuable. However, we also understand if you need some time to recharge. In such cases, we simply ask that you remain nearby and accessible. After each session we will provide you with a brief summary, verbally or written, of what we did during the session as well as carryover ideas to try throughout the week at home.
We do ask that children have a parent or adult available to assist during teletherapy sessions.
Do you offer telehealth services?
Online teletherapy services are available to all residents of Virginia.
Do I need a referral?
A referral is not necessary for an evaluation or speech therapy services at Ignite Speech.

Do you accept insurance?
We are not currently contracted with any insurance companies, and do not bill insurance companies for our services. We accept payment for the services we provide at the time of service.
While we do not bill insurance, your insurance company may still cover some or all of our services via your out-of-network benefits. We are able to provide you with a Superbill which is a form that you can submit to your insurance company to attempt to receive reimbursement for our services.
